Wings
of the Cascades is nestled in the shadow of the perpetually snow-capped
Cascade Mountain Range. The high desert of beautiful, sunny Central
Oregon provides a climate that yields excellent flying weather year-round.
It is also the outdoor recreation hot spot of Oregon...one of a few
places that visitors can literally ski in the morning and golf in the
afternoon. Known as "the sunny side of Oregon", the Cascade mountains
act as a protective buffer, capturing the snow for skiing and giving
our high desert region less than 12 inches of precipitation per year.
That compares to 40 inches for Portland and 36 inches for Seattle. We
experience an estimated 320+ flyable days per year. The Oregon
scenery, while in flight, is breathtaking in every direction.
Off campus time can be filled with world class local recreation including skiing and snowboarding at Mt. Bachelor, rock climbing at Smith Rocks, trout fishing on the Deschutes River and numerous high mountain lakes; and golfing the many award-winning/championship 18-hole courses. Hiking and mountain biking trails abound throughout the entire Central Oregon area. Take a whitewater rafting trip down one of the crystal clear Cascade mountain rivers.
